About Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry

(SMCCI)

 
 
 

The Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce was incorporated on 28 July 1956 under the Companies Act of the Republic of Singapore with its liability limited by guarantee. The Chamber was formed by a group of Malay businessmen with the aim to assist and co-operate with one another and exchange information for mutual benefits. On 30 November 1995, its name was changed to Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI) or in Malay, as the Dewan Perniagaan dan Perusahaan Melayu Singapura (DPPMS) to reflect a wider role.

 

The New SMCCI was inaugurated on 14 February 2004 and the launching of SMCCI new logo was held on 27 November 2005. Activities increased and there were many projects organized and in the pipeline. Seminars, conferences and trade missions were successfully organized with new avenues of business being ventured.

 

The key officer of the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry comprises of the President, the Deputy President, the Vice-President, the Honorary Secretary, the Honorary Assistant Secretary, the Honorary Treasurer and the Honorary Assistant Treasurer.

 

Other than the key officers of the  Chamber mentioned above, it is also run collectively by six of the Management Committee Members who are elected at the Annual General Meeting and six more Management Committee Members who may be appointed by the incumbent Management Committee Members who are given the mandate in accordance with the constitution of the chamber to fill in the necessary positions.

 

Besides the Executive Council and Management Committee members, the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also have provisions in the Constitution to fill in other post of office bearers where necessary which include the Permanent Chairman, Honorary Presidents, Internal Auditors and External Auditors.
